CIRCUIT PARK

Public BBQ

Circuit Park in Ormeau Hills presents an interesting dual-purpose setup that caught my attention - a combination children's playground and off-leash dog exercise area that somehow works brilliantly. The barbecue facilities here are surprisingly well-maintained, with clean hotplates that clearly see regular use by families juggling both kids and canines. The park's layout is rather clever, though I suspect the town planners were having a particularly optimistic day when they designed it. The BBQ area sits adjacent to both the playground and dog park, which means you can flip sausages while watching your children hurtle down what can only be described as an impressively oversized slide, all while keeping an eye on your labrador navigating the agility course. The facilities are practical rather than luxurious - you'll find water fountains and decent picnic spaces, though the lack of toilets is a glaring oversight that will eventually test even the most prepared parent. Street parking can be challenging during peak times, and shade is somewhat limited, making summer barbecues a test of both timing and sun tolerance. Despite these quirks, there's something endearing about this unpretentious spot where families clearly return regularly, creating that comfortable community atmosphere that makes a simple barbecue memorable.
